In order to offer consistency and clarity to the children and to emphasise the positive rather than the negative the school operates a ‘House Points’ system.

Every child in the lower part of the school – Key Stage 1, is placed in one of 4 ‘house’ teams:

  • Foxes
  • Rabbits
  • Squirrels
  • Hedgehogs

House points are given as a ‘reward’ for good work and/ or behaviour. Each week points from every KS1 class are added to a running score displayed on the ground floor corridor. This is to encourage the continued motivation of the children to take positive rather than negative actions in school.

In Key Stage 2 every class has a ‘Class Dojo’ system of rewarding points run on the interactive white boards. Again children are rewarding for a variety of good work and positive behaviour. Parents and families can log into the Class Dojo via an app and check their child’s points and progress.

Every Friday children are rewarded with certificates either in class or during the once monthly Primary School Friday assembly.

School rules

Rules are essential to keep the school running smoothly and instil a sense of responsibility and discipline in each child. Please note the following:

  • Attendance and punctuality are necessary if children are to progress and do well in their school activities. Children should be in school by 8.30a.m everyday. A record of lateness will be kept in the school office and on the third late arrival the child will not be allowed into school until 10.30a.m therefore missing a session’s teaching. Any student arriving after 9a.m will be admitted into school at 10.30a.m so as not to disrupt lessons.
  • School finishes at 4.00p.m. We ask parents to not take children home before that time and to not arrive late to avoid disruption and upset.
  • Parents may not telephone the school office to change bus arrangements during the school day in any way. It is parent’s responsibility to organise alternative arrangements if they wish to change their child’s journey to or from school.
  • Children MUST NOT be sent to school if they are ill in any way.
  • If children are ill they cannot be sent in to school late or taken home early- they MUST NOT come to school.
  • Children may miss a teaching session for a medical appointment only if an appointment cannot be made for after school.
  • Children may only miss a p.e lesson if they have a doctor’s certificate or letter explaining the reason why.
  • Absence/illness. After the 5th day of absence, parents are kindly asked to bring in a medical certificate in order for their child to start school again.
  • Children may only stay in at playtime if a doctor’s certificate or letter is provided explaining the reason why.
  • Children should not bring medicine to school.
  • Children are expected to attend the whole school year and all holidays should be taken in accordance with the school academic calendar.
  • The school does not view holidays taken IN school term as a reasonable excuse to miss school. Work will not be provided for students who miss school for personal/family holidays. It is up to teachers and the school to decide when missing tests and work should be due in if students miss deadlines for family holidays. Tests MAY be taken on the first day back at school after a holiday depending on school needs (e.g report deadlines etc.)
  • If a child has a prolonged illness parents may request homework. Homework will not be provided for absences of 1 week or less and will not be provided for any other type of absence other than prolonged illness.
  • Children are requested not to bring food, sweets, toys, money or objects of value to school.
  • ALL children are expected to wear a complete and correct school uniform everyday of the week as described in the School Rules document. Please be aware that children wearing in-appropriate uniform/footwear will not be admitted to lessons.
