The library
The primary school has its own library with books in English and Italian. Children from Reception upwards can take a library book, (in English), of their choice home every week to look at with their family. The book must be returned to school for the following weeks library session. Each child will also take home and frequently change reading books from the ‘Oxford reading Tree’ set of books. These books, from the United Kingdom, are special books used to teach children to read in English. We encourage parents to take an interest in their child’s reading of these books and to fill in their child’s reading diary with suitable comments for the class teacher to look at.
Children from Year 1 upwards also take home reading books in Italian under the supervision of their Italian teacher.
School uniform
In September 2009 Villa Grimani introduced its own school uniform. After much discussion and investigation into British school uniforms we found the perfect uniform that gives all our children a sense of pride, identity and belonging to Villa Grimani International School. All children are expected to wear a complete and correct school uniform everyday of the week and for P.E. lessons.
Electronic register
In Key Stage two an electronic register is used in every classroom. This is not only used to take the daily class register but all homework, test dates and test results are displayed here. In this way families can keep a regular check on what their child is doing at school and what they should be doing at home.
How to apply
It is possible to enrol your child at Villa Grimani at any point during the academic year providing there are spaces available. Children are accepted from Italian, foreign and international schools. They may be asked to sit an entry test and meet with staff on a few occasions to gage their level of English and to decide in which class they should be placed. Children entering with little or no English are given individual support from our support teachers in and out of the classroom.
